I am showing here some restoration work I did in 2014 on an old door. Estimated age is from the 1820’s. The frame was in pieces following some fire damage to the room, but luckily it was essentially complete. I had to add a board, then plane the whole triangular top, then nail in the curlicues that you see in the pictures. Next came some caulking to make the surface smooth and uniform, then painting. I selected some soft colors, gray for the main body, with accents in pale yellow.
Next month I will talk about some more recent work, this time on the floor of the same room, done by me. To follow later is a professional mosaic restoration on another room floor. Don’t go away, and if you have questions about this work (techniques, materials etc.) please write
