Autumn, the splendid season

At Castello di Brozolo, the majority of our guests come for the summer months – July and August – when holidays are in full-swing and the hot weather in the big cities makes the crisper climate of Monferrato all the more appealing.

This year, due to several family events (three weddings in the space of three weeks!) we got to come back and spend some time in the gorgeous surroundings of the Piedmontese hills in late September and early October.  It was a reminder of how special this time of year truly is!

As the days get a little shorter and the air starts to carry that unique “autumn” scent, Brozolo and its surroundings become absolutely captivating.  On days with good visibility – of which there are many during the transition to fall – you are treated to what seems like an endless panoramic view of the Alps in the distance, with Monviso, Rocciamelone and Monte Rosa standing out among them.

Piedmontese food and wine come to life in the autumn.  In fact, most typical Piedmontese cooking is best suited to eating when the temperature gets a little cooler.  Filled pastas like agnolotti and cappelletti can be bought fresh from a number of local businesses that make them by hand.  The classic flavors of bagna cauda (dipping sauce of artichokes and anchovies) and tagliatelle con funghi (fresh pasta with mushrooms) come to life when the weather gets that chilly edge.  And don’t forget the wine! Local favorites like Arneis and Barbera d’Asti are even better than usual when there’s a chill in the air.

So if you find yourself with a little extra time at the tail end of summer and want to experience a truly unique vacation, what are you waiting for?  Do come visit us.  This is when Piemonte shines.

Do call us for informations on a stay, the hills are turning yellow and the weather is still mild.
